Does your character have any close ties to existing canon characters? (Canon OCs and AUs only.)
NA
Why do you think your character would work in this setting?
Violet is getting fluxed in and will easily see this as a picnic compared to several years on the run. She would also relish being in a place like New Dodge since it also means new tech and new chances to invent useful things to boot. In a way she will eventually see this as a new start, just without her brother and sisters (she will worry herself silly trying to find them given just escaping Olaf too).
How do you plan to expand their CR?
Once Violet gets past the worst of her trust issues (thanks Oaf) she'll thrive in New Dodge. She'll be working with people that see her brains and not her age while she's able to also be a somewhat normal 16 year old girl so she'll gain friends and a social life that does not revolve around staying a step ahead of insane guardians. She'll also learn how to trust adults again thanks to her first decent guardian in several years.
What will your character do for work?
Apprentice for the research center and will start a repair business on the side. She will find a way to test out of school knowing how she is too.
Inventory:
Just the clothes/jewelry on her back and her tool belt with tools. Her idea journal will also be making the trip.

Character Basics
Character name: Violet Baudelaire
Character Journal: invented_misery
Canon: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Canon Point: Post novels by about a year (semi AU)
Age: 17, turns 18 in December
Icon: http://v.dreamwidth.org/10524574/2539380
Canon Character Information
Appearance: Violet appears to be a typical yet pretty young woman of about 17 years of age with dark brown hair and light green eyes. She is usually seen in a somewhat proper dress but quickly adjusts to what most would expect a young repairwoman to wear in jeans and work shirts along with boots. A constant is her hair ribbon to keep her hair from getting caught in her work/to keep her focus and a silver locket which holds a photo of her family from before the fatal fire that killed her parents. There are also a handful of scars ranging from projects that backfired to some due to being on the run from Count Olaf. She also carries a small notebook to keep track of ongoing projects and work for others.
History: snicket.wikia.com/wiki/Violet_Baudelaire
Personality: To the untrained eye Violet Baudelaire appears to be an average college freshman of just 17. But in reality she has seen and lived more in a few short years than some have in a lifetime, most painful but with good along the way.
She is a bit too proper and very respectful of all people from little kids to adults (this in spite of massive trust issues thanks to Count Olaf along with people wanting her to be a perfect little lady in spite of her parents full support of her dreams as an inventor) but she would rather let people think she just has good manners (in spite of this being true) to avoid any possible spats. She is also the type to want to be seen for her smarts over being pretty, her need to invent things and to always have an ongoing project also acting as ways to avoid facing her feelings from Count Olaf and not having her siblings and little Beatrice to be the best older sister and protector of. She was also in the middle of a constant search for her family while attending Oxford, thankfully with only the full support of her host family, but that drive while the majority of the time being a good thing can also cause its problems (mostly after getting sick while tracking a very tiny lead on her sisters). Violet is also always wanting to learn and understand all that is around her, so in a way the island while causing her to finally face old wounds and ghosts will also be an adventure from the mystery of the always working lights to the flying boats to having things to fix/invent and the occasional small child to mind. She is also quite creative from her using things most would throw away for her inventions to the costumes she made up on the fly to keep her family safe and a few steps ahead of Count Olaf (along with knowing when to let people lend a hand like the VFD but she also has to relearn not all adults are useless). But for Violet Medietas will also be a journey of everything from not having to live in fear of people trying to kill or force her into marriage (yes Olaf has pulled this) to finding peace with herself for things she could not change. She'll get sick at least once but finally will find herself anew.

At her core Violet is scary intelligent, resourceful and stronger than she knows. She's genius level smart which also leads into her very resourceful nature via using common objects for her inventions. She's also stronger than she knows because anyone who has faced Olaf and came out in one piece is basically that.
She clings to knowledge since even now she still needs to learn there are answers beyond the world of science and books (which she freely admits is a weakness). She also admits when pushed she does have issues with trusting and knows its something she needs to work on since with her trust has to be earned (again blame many awful guardians and Count Olaf). She also needs to learn its ok to be a little bit selfish and take care of herself, something that will be a challenge since she's always looking out for others and especially her family. But there are flashes of a teenager underneath since a mad scientist joke if meant in fun does amuse her now.
As for fears Violet's biggest along with any chance of Olaf coming back to haunt her is losing the people she cares for. Her family is at the top of that list along with the handful of close friends from her time on the run. She also is very distrustful of most adults given events of the novels and how awful the bulk of the guardians they had were, its made her only rely on herself. She admits she does have to relearn trust but is still going to side eye a lot of people, especially anyone over 30. The odd part is she's able to trust those her own age just fine: a small bit of rumored love interest Quigley Quagmire may have just rubbed off but in the best sense.
How has Violet changed since the events of the novels? She's still distrustful of most adults but is working on that (but is still very respectful in spite of those fears, she just hides it well). She clings to science and is more determined than ever to get her family back. She tries to stay upbeat but the dark days make appearances. She used to believe things happen for a reason: she still does but also admits there are moments she's been sure the world is simply out to get her. She also has to learn to live without being a caregiver and to live without eventually looking over her shoulder all the time.
So Medietas will just continue the journey that started on the campus of Oxford: to finding herself and to continue the post Olaf phase of her recovery. So in a way Violet is still changing as a person. She's just a work in progress at the moment.
Powers/Abilities/Talents: Inventor who is known to use everyday objects, expert at costumes and disguises, book and street smart. Otherwise a vanilla human.
AU/CR AU Addendum: This version of Violet does ignore small portions of what is known for the period after the end of the novels. She survives the events of the final book and is attempting to start anew as a student at Oxford when taken by the islands. Along the way she has been trying to locate Klaus, Sunny but with little success at the moment.
What 4 items would you like your character to have with them on the island during their stay? Scrapbook of family photos from before the fire with a couple of Beatrice, her tool box w/tools inside, a box of parts and textbooks from Oxford. On Violet at the time of her arrival is her tool belt with some tools and her purse which holds various odds and ends ranging from her phone and school ID to change and a candy bar.

First Person: [Violet can be seen in the loft going over every nook and cranny with what looks to be some sort of makeshift metal detector. After a few minutes and not knowing she had flipped on the device while waging war with a tool she decided it was safe enough to make herself known.]
So many curious but too few answers. The flying boats is one thing but at least there is no sign of Count Olaf in sight [she scans the room just to be safe before speaking once more.] Pardon my manners! My name is Violet Baudelaire (she does a little curtsy to lighten the mood) and I'm among the more recent arrivals to the islands. The actual purpose to this video is two fold: I'm seeking employment if anyone is in need of a repairperson and curious to see if there is a need for a child minder? I have two younger siblings with an adopted 3rd [her voice hitches, she still wishes she could have done more to protect them] so I do have experience.
And if anyone knows where the best junkyard is I'm all ears. For now I have some exploring to do [and she won't say it but she's also going to booby trap the loft in case of Olaf.]
